Anti-whaling protesters say they found Japanese whalers in Antarctic Ocean

MELBOURNE, Australia: An anti-whaling protest ship was again harassing the Japanese fleet in the Antarctic Ocean, its captain said Saturday. The Sea Shepherd ship Steve Irwin found the Japanese whalers Saturday on its return to the icy ocean from the Australian port of Melbourne where it made repairs and refueled after ending the chase last month, captain Paul Watson said.

"I don't think any whales are going to be dying today," Watson said by satellite phone. "Our goal is to keep the harpoons quiet for the next three weeks." The Japanese fleet had been whaling unmolested since both the Steve Irwin and Greenpeace's ship Esperanza were forced to return to land last month for fuel. Tokyo plans to take about 900 Antarctic minke whales and up to 50 fin whales during the southern summer.
