Anti-whaling protesters say they found Japanese whalers in Antarctic Ocean

MELBOURNE, Australia: An anti-whaling protest ship was again harassing the Japanese fleet in the Antarctic Ocean, its captain said Saturday. The Sea Shepherd ship Steve Irwin found the Japanese whalers Saturday on its return to the icy ocean from the Australian port of Melbourne where it made repairs and refueled after ending the chase last month, captain Paul Watson said.

"I don't think any whales are going to be dying today," Watson said by satellite phone. "Our goal is to keep the harpoons quiet for the next three weeks." The Japanese fleet had been whaling unmolested since both the Steve Irwin and Greenpeace's ship Esperanza were forced to return to land last month for fuel. Tokyo plans to take about 900 Antarctic minke whales and up to 50 fin whales during the southern summer.

Us life style determining, do continuing to linger or loose slowly. This Environment issue become popular since Al Gore film of An Inconvenient Truth and by maraton campaign the problem of global warming. Life style and freshment which during the time unconsciously continue us experience in the reality give contribution of mutilation of environment. Ornament of imposed gold, released carbon gas of motor vehicle which we board or tree cut away to be made by paper and toothpick is small example of contribution to mutilation of environment.

So environment issue, natural of stricture of meaning become change of global warming or climate, mirror at height of apresiasi society to this festival. Paradox of Global Warming, Climate Change and Ad Words

Paradox of Global Warming, Climate Change and Ad Words

by Jacob Paradox

Damage awareness of forest him and change of climate is a phenomenon which must be seen with detail. Some people do not care by damages of forest that happened and likely they close eyes with mannerism like do not happened something and likely walking better. But all that facts say otherly. Spirit of togetherness which have planted become discoloured along with journey of time. All becoming egoist and make account of propertieses of eye without matured consideration to generated effect of damage of environment and forest. Paradox between Global Warming, Climate Change and Ad Words in fact modestly. All publications butuh in the case of inviting people to take care of environment start from environment around their own house. Ad Words is branch of program of Google Adsense and most of consumers of internet use facility Ad Words in product promotion which they sell. Greenhouse share big in a condition earth. Water pollution are real matter in vital life to joint human life and dweller of earth. If water have impure of dangerous materials hence generating ugly impact for health of human being and environment.

A paradox is sometime seen as whits but don't wrong if paradox are early from a real truths though sometimes in seeing as matter which interfere in and wrong. But here come on our lah start with each other assisting one otherly. As well as each other taking care of our environment. If you will assist activity of your us is enough of advertisement click which we install. Because this blog relate to Google Adsense to get fund. Be really each other trusting because we face is same problem concerning human being future.

Speaking of global warming (Global climate change)

Speaking of global warming

This week could set a record for the number of high-profile hours spent discussing global warming and what to do about it. It begins with a special one-day session at the United Nations, at which Al Gore will press the case for strong collective action to stop the rise of greenhouse gases. It ends with a two-day White House "summit" involving all of the major emitters, including India and China. Both of those nations have been conspicuously absent from climate negotiations, but their help in arresting global emissions is essential.

The problem needs all the attention it can get. But if talk is good, it is also cheap. And it will change nothing unless it leads to a real treaty with real, and enforceable, limits on the production of greenhouse gases. That means a broader and more inclusive version of the Kyoto Protocol, a noble but flawed treaty that expires in 2012. As we know, firm targets are not what President George W. Bush has in mind. Bush announced this summit in June at a time when he was under serious pressure from scientists, the Supreme Court, his Europeans allies and the nation's governors to do something about global warming. He made it clear even then that he would continue to resist binding targets of the sort envisioned by Kyoto in favor of voluntary, country-by-country agreements - "aspirational" goals, in the words of his environmental adviser, James Connaughton, instead of real ones. If this summit legitimizes an every-nation-for-itself approach, it will have been a failure.

Nor should all the hoopla be allowed to obscure the fact that there are plenty of things that Washington can do, should do and is still not doing to start slowing the damage from global warming. One obvious step is to let California and 13 other states proceed with stiff new rules aimed at reducing greenhouse gases from cars and light trucks. This month, a federal judge ruled that the states should be allowed to proceed. In doing so, he systematically demolished every technological and economic argument advanced by the automobile industry as to why it cannot significantly improve automobile efficiency. But the states still need a federal waiver to proceed. Bush should grant it.

Meanwhile, Democratic leaders in the Congress should stop inventing endless excuses - Iraq, a crowded calendar, procedural difficulties - for why they cannot move swiftly to reconcile their two energy bills. One of the big sticking points is a Senate provision requiring meaningful improvements in fuel economy. Again the automobile companies say they can't do it. History says they can.

Of course, the energy bill is controversial. Most energy bills are; this one more than most because it actually has some tough provisions requiring serious investment in efficiency and in the way we create and deliver energy. This is a big test for Democrats. If they cannot deliver on this bill, there's little hope they can ever handle the far more complex, but essential, task of producing a comprehensive strategy on climate change.

Climate change becomes urgent security issue in Australia (Global Warming Problem)

Climate change becomes urgent security issue in Australia

By Tim Johnston

SYDNEY: As the first bush fires of the year rage through Australia's national forests, concern over climate change is intensifying among Australians.

A telephone survey of more than 1,000 people released Wednesday showed that 40 percent of Australians thought that global warming was a greater threat to security than Islamic fundamentalism. Only 20 percent thought it was less serious. The survey, by the U.S. Studies Center, based at the University of Sydney, came a day after the government's top scientific body said that rising temperatures and reduced rainfall were inevitable in Australia.

The report brought calls for more resources to be focused on mitigating the effects of future climate change rather than the current policy of trying to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Extreme weather, including a drought that has persisted in some places for six years, has focused the Australian public on climate change, and it is shaping up as a major issue in general elections expected to be called in the next few weeks.

On Tuesday, Australia's most influential scientific research body, the government-funded Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, released a report that said an average temperature rise of 1 degree Celsius (1.8 Fahrenheit) was likely by 2030, along with many more days with temperatures of more than 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) and reduced rainfall over much of southern Australia, already the driest part of the driest inhabited continent on earth. "The message is that global warming is real, humans are very likely to be causing it and that it is very likely that there will be changes in the global climate system in the centuries to come larger than those seen in the recent past," the report said.

Recent events have made the subject even more urgent for many Australians. In the spring season, about 50 separate bush fires, fanned by unseasonably hot weather and strong winds, have already burned about 30,000 hectares, or 74,000 acres, of bush and national forest and destroyed a house. Large areas of the state of New South Wales, including Sydney, had a total fire ban in force Wednesday.

"It is very interesting to see how climate change has moved from the environmental field to the security sphere," said Alan Dupont, who heads the U.S. Studies Center, referring to the report released Wednesday. "Most of the government response has been about reducing greenhouse gas emissions rather than trying to manage the effects of the change."

The survey's results echo comments last week by the head of the Australian police, Commissioner Mick Keelty, that climate was a growing security concern. "We could see a catastrophic decline in the availability of fresh water," Keelty said. "Crops could fail, disease could be rampant and flooding might be so frequent that people, en masse, would be on the move. "Even if only some and not all of this occurs, climate change is going to be the security issue of the 21st century."

His comments provoked a sharp response from Prime Minister John Howard, who said terrorism was a more immediate threat to security than climate change. Howard was until recently a skeptic on climate change, and the opposition Labor Party has said that his recent attention on climate is driven more by polls than conviction. Australia has one of the world's highest per capita emissions of greenhouse gases. The government has refused to ratify the Kyoto Protocol, saying it is meaningless because it does not impose restrictions on the two greatest emerging emitters, India and China.

Environmentalists say that the time to tackle climate change is running out and that the major global economies need to commit themselves to radical cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. Both the United States and Australia have resisted efforts to set hard emissions targets and have encouraged the development of technologies like nuclear and "clean coal" in an effort to improve the efficiency of carbon-based fuel sources. The U.S. Studies Center survey relied on 1,213 phone interviews from July 13 to 29. It had a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.

Declaring that 'green' equals peace (Global climate change)

Declaring that 'green' equals peace

By Elisabeth Rosenthal

The Nobel Peace Prize committee made a powerful statement Friday that the consequences of increasing carbon emissions are as dangerous as the ravages of war and - more directly - that "green" equals peace. The award to Al Gore and the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reflects a growing conviction on the part of scientists, politicians and economists that such emissions will not only change climate patterns but also lead to economic mayhem, social upheaval and conflicts between nations or groups trying to survive in an increasingly disrupted natural environment. "This prize is an indication of the degree to which we've realized in the past few years that what happens in the environment is not just about natural resources but has so many different dimensions," said Achim Steiner, executive director of the UN Environment Program. "It recognizes that changes in the environment are likely to manifest themselves in tensions and conflicts."

The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, which has for years maintained a "Doomsday Clock" to monitor the risk of global disaster from nuclear weapons, this year increased its warning level for the first time not because of weaponry but because of the threat posed by global warming. Many scholars believe that climate-related conflict is already upon us. "I believe there are many places that are in, or on the edge of, conflict because of climate change already, and this prize is a warning that on our current trajectory of climate change the risk will get a lot worse - these will be the conflicts of the 21st century," said Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University in New York.

Sachs said that climate change had already helped ignite conflicts and wars in a swath of the world that extends from Sudan in Africa, through the Middle East and to Afghanistan. "All of these are in dry lands that have had significant environmental stress, which is probably related to climate change," he said. A recent UN report concluded that land degradation and desertification in the Darfur region of Sudan helped set the stage for the devastating tribal and ethnic conflicts of the past few years as poor people increasingly competed for depleted resources. "But for the environmental stress, I doubt this would have exploded," Sachs said. Large-scale migrations from Africa to Europe are already on the increase in part because climate change has made traditional livelihoods, from farming to fishing, less viable, experts say. If global warming continues on its current course, the Himalayan glaciers will melt, according to the most recent IPCC report, ultimately reducing the water supply of hundreds of millions of people, in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

"It does not take a lot of imagination to see that this will have drastic economic and social effects and lead to conflicts," Steiner said, as countries fight over who can take water from cross-border rivers. But the potential for conflict spawned by climate change is not limited to the poor countries of the world. Already, as the polar ice melts, countries are scrambling to claim previously covered resources. In his last days as president of France, Jacques Chirac suggested that his country might tax goods imported from countries which did not do their part to limit emissions. The UN panel and Gore have in their separate ways insisted that the world find a global strategy for limiting climate change and adapting to climate shifts that are already inevitable. But many others have joined forcefully in the mantra that peace and prosperity depend on the success in this quest - including former President Bill Clinton, Nicholas Stern, who was the chief economist of the World Bank, and business leaders like Richard Branson, the owner of Virgin Group.

In a report prepared for the British government and released last December, Stern suggested that projected climate change could shrink the global economy by 20 percent and plunge the world into recession. At a conference in New York earlier this month, Clinton noted that the world population was expected to rise from 6.5 billion to 9 billion in the next 43 years, a period in which further warming is projected, even if emissions were brought under control.

"Most of those people are going to be born in countries not able to support their current populations," Clinton said, "which gives a certain quaint air to the illegal immigration debate in Congress." Those conditions will make 2007 "look like a Sunday afternoon picnic," he added. "If China, India and the U.S. are going to have peaceful relations, they are going to have to negotiate a peaceful method for managing climate-related public goods - like natural resources, the atmosphere and biodiversity," Sachs said.
